2017 SMSA Elections

In 2017, the SMSA Membership needs to elect new At-large State Representatives and a new Supporting Member Representative to the SMSA Executive Committee.

At-large State Representatives

The Executive Committee shall have three At-large State Representatives from any of the three regions (East, Central and West). Only Designated Representatives from State Members in good standing are eligible for election to serve as At-large Representatives.

At-large State Representatives shall be elected in odd-numbered years. Terms are for two years. At-large State Representatives are limited to three consecutive terms.

State Member Designated Representatives interested in running for At-large State Representatives shall give written notice of intent to run to all SMSA Members by June 1, 2017.

Supporting Member Representative

Supporting Members shall elect one person as their Designated Representative who will vote on behalf of all Supporting Members and serve on the SMSA Executive Committee. The Supporting Member Representative shall be elected in odd-numbered years and shall serve a two-year term. The Supporting Member Representative is limited to three consecutive terms.

If you would like to nominate someone for one of these positions, please contact that person before making the nomination so they are aware of your plans.  Individuals running for a position on the Executive Committee need to obtain approval from their organization to run for and accept a position on the SMSA Executive Committee.

Elections are done by ballot prior to the 2017 Member Business Meeting.

There will be no elections at the Annual Business Meeting.


Criteria for Qualification

I.
Chairperson

The Chairperson shall be elected by the voting representatives in even-numbered calendar
years. Only Designated Representatives from State Members in good standing are eligible for
election to the office of Chairperson of the SMSA Executive Committee.

State Member Designated Representatives interested in running for Chairperson shall give
written notice of intent to run by June 1 of election years. This notice of intent to run shall
include:

1) Candidate's name
2) State Member's name
3) Candidate's qualifications


II.
Regional State Representatives

Designated Representatives from State Members in good standing are eligible for election to
serve as Regional Representatives. Regional Representatives will be elected in odd-numbered
calendar years and will serve two-year terms.*

*The Central Region Representative elected in 2012 will serve a one-year term.


III. At-Large State Representatives

Designated Representatives from State Members in good standing are eligible for election to
serve as At-Large Representatives. At-Large Representatives may be from any region and will
be elected in even-numbered calendar years and will serve two-year terms.


IV. Supporting Member Representative

Supporting Members shall elect one person as their Designated Representative who will vote on
behalf of all Supporting Members and serve on the SMSA Executive Committee. Supporting
Member Representatives will be elected in odd numbered years and serve two-year terms. **

**The Supporting Member Representative elected in 2012 will serve a one-year term.

V. Individual Member Representative

Individual Members shall elect one person as their Designated Representative who will vote on
behalf of all Individual Members and serve on the SMSA Executive Committee. Individual
Member Representatives will be elected in even numbered years and will serve two-year terms.


The new SMSA Bylaws will be effective July 2, 2012. The new membership levels will
combine Corporate Members, Professional Members and Supporting Associate Members
to form the Supporting Membership Category. Emeritus and Supporting Members will be
